Föreläsning på SLS 22/9: When Sweden Was World-Leading in Psychopharmacology

Dear colleagues,
On Tuesday 22 September 2026, the Swedish Psychiatric Association (SPF)
invites you to an evening in the spirit of the Nobel Prize—open to everyone with
an interest in psychopharmacology and contemporary psychiatric history.
Elias Eriksson, who worked closely with Nobel laureate Arvid Carlsson, will give
a lecture entitled:
When Sweden Was World-Leading in Psychopharmacology
We will trace how the pharmacologist Arvid Carlsson’s fundamental discoveries
came to shape international psychopharmacology and psychiatry, and how
collaboration between preclinical researchers, academic psychiatry, and the
pharmaceutical industry helped Sweden achieve a world-leading position in
psychopharmacology for decades. The lecture will also discuss why major
psychopharmacological breakthroughs have unfortunately become less frequent
than before the turn of the millennium, and what lessons from this history might
help address this stagnation.
Time & venue: 22 September, 18:00, Swedish Society of Medicine (SLS), Main
Hall (max 200 participants).
Adress: Klara östra kyrkogata 10, Stockholm
With thousands of congress participants in Stockholm that week, places are
allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration: kanslisten@svenskpsykiatri.se
A warm welcome!
On behalf of the Swedish Psychiatric Association,
Jonas Eberhard
