The Swedish Psychiatric Association
The Swedish Psychiatric Association is the scientific organisation of the Swedish
psychiatrist profession. It aims to promote education, research, development of
psychiatric health-care organisation, and also further the interests of our patients as a
group.
The Swedish Psychiatric Association is open for all physicians working in the
psychiatric sector in Sweden. Other individuals with psychiatric interest can also become
members.
The board is elected at the annual spring meeting. The association organizes scientific
meetings twice yearly – in spring and autumn – and presents at the Swedish
National Medical Congress each year in November.
The Swedish Psychiatric Association is asked for expert opinion regarding policy and
legislation from Swedish government, the Swedish National Board of Health and other
institutions in the Swedish society.
The Swedish Psychiatric Association evaluates quality of specialist training at Swedish
psychiatric clinics and writes the detailed requirements for psychiatric specialist
training.
The chairman of The Swedish Psychiatric Association participates in various organisations in
European and international psychiatry, for example European Leaders of Psychiatry. The
board also has contacts with WPA, AEP, EFPT, and UEMS Section of Psychiatry.

Membership fee is 600 SEK. This fee also includes an annual subscription to the Nordic
Journal of Psychiatry.
The Swedish Psychiatric Association currently has about 1500 members.
